Consumer Price Index for South Sudan September 2017

The South Sudan annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 101.9% from September 2016 to September 2017. The increase was mainly driven by high price in food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The annual CPI increased in Juba by 143% and in Wau by 109% from September 2016 to September 2017. The South Sudan monthly CPI increased by 0.2% from August 2017 to September 2017,  the monthly CPI increased by 8% in Juba and increased in Wau by11.2%.

The South Sudan annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 165% from August 2016 to August 2017. The increased was mainly driven by high price in food and non-alcoholic beverages. The annual CPI increased in Juba by 183% and in Wau by 102.2% from August 2016 to August 2017. The South Sudan monthly CPI increased by 9.9% from July 2017 to August 2017, the monthly CPI increased by 8% in Juba and increased in Wau by 9.3%.

South Sudan Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Estimates for 2016

The real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of South Sudan grew 0.3% in 2016 compare to 5.1% the previous year, according to National Accounts figures produced by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) following a technical assistance mission offered by International Monetary Fund (IMF from August 14–18, 2017 as the support to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) with improved measurements.

The South Sudan annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 154.6% from July 2016 to July 2017. The
increased was mainly driven by high price in food and non-alcoholic beverages.
The annual CPI increased in Juba by 168.3% and in Wau by 137.6% from July 2016 to July 2017.
The South Sudan monthly CPI increased by 0.9% from June 2017 to July 2017. The monthly CPI
increased by 3.8% in Juba and increased in Wau by 4.2%.

The South Sudan annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 361.9% from June 2016 to June 2017. The increased was mainly driven by high price in food and non-alcoholic beverages. The annual CPI increased in Juba by 357.9% and in Wau by 311.1% from June 2016 to June 2017.

The South Sudan monthly CPI decreased by 7% from May 2017 to June 2017. The monthly CPI decreased by 6.7% in Juba and increased in Wau by 3.5%.

The South Sudan annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 334% from May 2016 to May 2017.
The increased was mainly driven by high price in food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The annual CPI increased in Juba by 339.6% and in Wau by 356.5% from May 2016 to May 2017.
The South Sudan monthly CPI increased by 40.4% from April 2017 to May 2017. The monthly CPI
increased by 32.9% in Juba and increased in Wau by 25.6%.

The increased was mainly driven by high price in food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The annual CPI increased in Juba by 297.5% and in Wau by 236.5% from April 2016 to April 2017.
The South Sudan monthly CPI increased by 4.8% from March 2017 to April 2017. The monthly CPI
increased by 15.2% in Juba and increased in Wau by 7.9%.

The High Frequency South Sudan Survey (HFSSS) uses tablet computers to collect real-time data and is currently being carried out in Aweil, Aweil North, Bor, Juba, Kuajok, Magwi, Maridi,Nimule, Raja, Rumbek, Rumbek East, Tonj South, Torit, Wau, Yambio and Yei. However, pilot data from April 2012 to October 2014 is included for Juba, Malakal, Rumbek and Wau. The aim of the survey is to provide the Government of South Sudan with high frequency, high quality data on social, economic and security conditions in the country.

The High Frequency South Sudan Survey (HFSSS) uses tablet computers to collect real-time data and is currently being carried out in Aweil, Aweil North, Bor, Juba, Kuajok, Magwi, Maridi,Nimule, Raja, Rumbek, Rumbek East, Tonj South, Torit, Wau, Yambio and Yei. However, pilot data from April 2012 to October 2014 is included for Juba, Malakal, Rumbek and Wau. The aim of the survey is to provide the Government of South Sudan with high frequency, high quality data on social, economic and security conditions in the country. The survey collects data on market prices, exchange rates and household welfare in these major towns and sub towns.

The National Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the World Bank is pleased to release further results for the Exchange Rate Survey, which is part of the High Frequency South Sudan Survey (see technical notes for more information). The survey uses handheld tablet computers to collect real-time data and is currently being carried out in Aweil, Aweil North, Bor, Juba, Kuajok, Magwi, Maridi, Raja, Rumbek, Rumbek East, Tonj South, Torit, Wau Yei and Yambio. However, pilot data from April 2012 to October 2014 is included for Juba, Malakal, Rumbek, Torit and Wau.
